These days, being seen around town with Mel Gibson may not be such a great idea -- especially if you're a young female trying to make your way in the entertainment biz.
Stella Mouzi, 25, learned that lesson the hard way this month, when tabloids began running photos of her with Gibson, and referring to Mouzi as his latest young conquest. Not so, says Mouzi. In an attempt at damage control, she spoke out on Thursday, telling People, "I came to the U.S. from Greece a few months ago and was charmed by the American hospitality. I made many new friends including Mel Gibson, with whom I share merely a friendly acquaintance."
She also objects to the way the stories described her -- as a "Greek Gothic chick" and a "fetish model" (though TMZ has dug up some pretty fetishistic photos of Mouzi). "I am a dancer, performance artist and a photographer," she explains. "That is the extent of my professional life. It has been difficult to be the subject of false rumors, which have also been hurtful to my friends and family."
But Mouzi hasn't done herself any favors by befriending the 55-year-old Gibson -- a guy whose last girlfriend, Oksana Grigorieva, made headlines when she accused him of assault. (He eventually pleaded no contest to one misdemeanor count of domestic violence.) Goth-like photos of Mouzi in black leather and spandex played right into the tabloids' idea of Gibson as a bad boy with a violent streak.
That said, no one should be judging her by the company she keeps. But for the time being, Mouzi would do well to hang with some... less controversial pals.
